Washington Journal, Interview with Javad Zarif

C-Span has done an interview with Javad Zarif: video
In this video he tries to answer questions about Iran's nuclear program, Iraq policy, and Ahmadinejad's comments on Israel. What a tough job he has.

Hi Amir,

Thank you for your posts. Sorry I have been pretty busy and have not posted anything in a few months now, but I still follow the topic and enjoy reading your posts.

I have one question for you about the statement that was quoted twice in the video about an Iranian military official saying that Israel would be a first target of reprisals should Iran be attacked by the United States. The statement was allegedly reported by ISNA and attributed to an Iranian rear-admiral according to th C-SPAN video and to an article from Reuters (http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyID=2006-05-02T125113Z_01_BLA246839_RTRUKOC_0_US-NUCLEAR-IRAN-ISRAEL.xml&archived=False).

The Iranian ambassador to the UN however said he had checked and had not seen that statetment reported by ISNA in Iran.
From your access to persian news sources, can you confirm or deny whether the statement is accurate.

I would not necessarily be shocked if it was true (in case of an US attack and of Iranian reprisals, Israel would be an easier target than the US for geographical reasons) though I don't know if it is very smart to make that threat public.
I would however like to know that the statement is accurate and that the same version has appeared in the Iranian media.

Thanks,
Hugo

Well, if he thinks he is not honest to the international community and Iranian people, he should resign.
